But Celebrate His Life - Danny Dunbar

In Honor of Detective Robert “Shane” Wilson

He left his wife and little boy,

To go and catch a call,

It was a home invasion,

He gave his work his all.

He was going up I-20,

When much to his dismay,

He saw a pair of headlights,

Shining in his way.

It happened in a moment,

Less than it takes to blink,

You shouldn’t second guess it,

There was just no time to think.

Shane was a detective,

A husband and a Dad,

And being a policeman,

Was the best job he’d ever had.

Investigating criminals,

Was how he earned his pay,

But he was always looking forward,

To going home at the end of the day.

He was somewhat of a bulldog,

He wanted to get it right,

So he dug for all the answers,

And brought all the facts to light.

He was headed to a crime scene,

Now he’s a detective in the sky,

Leaving a community to mourn him,

And a wife and son are left to cry.

But don’t remember him as a tragedy,

But celebrate his life,

And remember all the love he had,

For his community, son and wife.

Policemen are simply people,

A lot like you and me,

Most are trying everyday,

To be the best that they can be.
